The Cost of Thanksgiving Dinner

Thanksgiving is a time when families get together to eat and be thankful for what they have. Food (turkey being the most important of all) is the one of the most important ingredient for a successful Thanksgiving holiday.
According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, a classic Thanksgiving dinner including turkey, stuffing, cranberries and pumpkin pie will cost 11 percent more this year. This increase is due in part to higher energy cost and inflation.
Turkey, being the most served food item during this special holiday, is the largest contributor to the increase in cost for this year’s cost. The Farm Bureau found that a 16-pound turkey cost $1.93 more this year at $17.63 compare to the previous year.
Below is a list of the cost of a Thanksgiving meal for a gathering of 10 and the difference from last year according to the American Farm Bureau Federation:
-16-pound turkey, $19.09, an increase of $1.46
-Cube stuffing, 14 oz., $2.57, up 17 cents
-30 ounces of pumpkin pie mix, $2.34, up 21 cents
-Two Pie shells, $2.26, up 18 cents
-Three pounds of sweet potatoes, $3.12, up 4 cents
-A dozen rolls, $2.20, up 31 cents
-One pound of green peas, $1.58, up 12 cents
-One-pound relish tray of carrots and celery, 82 cents, up 16 cents
-One gallon of whole milk, $3.78, down 10 cents
-Fresh cranberries, 12 oz., $2.46, up 26 cents
-Half pint of cream, $1.70, up 14 cents
-Miscellaneous ingredients like onions, eggs, sugar, flour, $2.69, down 60 cents
-Total: $44.61, up $2.35 from last year
